Going for Gold!

Wanting to try a tournament? No confidence? Afraid to try?

Well try you must!

I was only six months into my new-found archery 'career' (just kidding - it's not my career, but I'd sure love it to be!) when I suddenly found myself participating in a tournament. It was the 2015 MICA - Multi-Sites Indoor Championships of the Americas (find results here). Everyone in North, South, and Central America participates over a 3 month period, and all the scores are accumulated and tallied on a spreadsheet. I knew I didn't have a hope in winning - and that's not being pessimistic, just realistic - but I was determined to try and to be able to say I had even PARTICIPATED in a tournament. The night before, the morning of, and all through it, I didn't know whether I was going to throw-up, cry, or faint - and in no particular order. But I did it - I finished it - and was so darn proud of myself for doing so. What made it better was that it was held on home turf, indoors, where I was used to shooting. Have I done it again? You bet! Will I do it again? Of course! And most importantly it was the start of something new for me - to challenge myself, to test myself, to push myself, and to learn how to ground myself. I have been in various other tournaments since then, and if you're considering getting into tournaments - even if only for your own gratification, or whatever your personal reasons are - being in tournaments puts you in a different mind set and makes you a better archer - you learn to focus.

So here are a few tournaments coming up - mostly local - but still. This is BY NO WAY a complete list of tournaments around Canada, the United States or the World - there are many, many websites for that. Check in with your local archery club for a website/listing of their tournaments and better yet, if you haven't joined a club, DO IT!
